Trail Blaze
Trail Blaze
San Francisco
In 1803 Lewis and Clark embarked on a treacherous expedition across America. Luckily, you don’t have to battle the elements when you retrace their footsteps across the continent in the comfort of your car. CarTours has developed a series of driving tours that follow the explorer’s historic trail. Accompanied by historians and Native American elders, Volume 9 – The Mighty Columbia – takes you from John Day Dam to Portland. You will explore the cultures of trade, cedar and salmon along the Columbia River and learn of the tense relations between members of the Lewis and Clark expedition and the local tribesmen. Hear authentic native music featuring the voices and tribal drums of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, and be treated to an audio re-enactment of a huge celebration with the Walla Walla, Wannapum, and visiting Yakama tribes.
